Community Enrichment Black

Scholarship Fund, Incorporated

Each spring, life’s cycles are change right before our eyes. One such cycle is our community’s High School Seniors graduate! Many of them will be pondering, “What’s next?” Some will enter a university, community college, technical or trade school. And while these students examine their next move, the board members of CEBSF will be thinking about them as well. Each spring, CEBSF sends scholarship applications to each graduating student classified as African-American (Black) in the Bartlesville and Dewey High School districts. And this begins the cycle of selecting our annual scholarship awardees.

CEBSF was established by a group of concerned Bartlesville citizens in 1974. Our purpose was, and remains, to award scholarships to an often-overlooked group: Deserving African-American (Black) youth desiring a college education. Eventually, students enrolling in trade and technical schools became eligible for scholarships as well. Our underlying goal is to upgrade our community, develop initiative and the desire to succeed, by investing in the educational future of our children. We believe these scholarships stimulate ambitious students to improve themselves, and ultimately, our community.

Students are selected based on several weighted criteria, primarily cumulative grade point average (GPA) and financial need.  For incoming freshman, application quality, recommendation letters, a written essay, and a panel interview are also substantial parts of our selection process. Initially scholarships were awarded for the freshman year only. However, financial support grew and now allows the Board to continue awards to those selected freshmen as they progress towards graduation, if they continue meeting our academic requirements.

CEBSF has awarded over $50,000 since its inception. To continue this proud tradition of giving, we need your financial support.
