EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT
December 2007-January 15, 2008
1.
UNITED WAY PROGRAMS-
SAFE HARBOR conducted its
regular meetings on the 2nd Tues. w/ The After School
Zone and 3rd Sat. w/ W.E. Pro$per Apprentices,
covering formal place settings and crafts projects; ON-CUE
met Dec. 8th to discuss the Reproductive Cycle
and Jan. 8th to discuss Birth Control; W.E.
PRO$PER Apprentices completed their fall training and
received their stipends. The W.E. Pro$per advisors committee met
Jan. 9th to plan for the Work Ethics Class of 2008;
SENIOR CITIZENS were transitioned into an independent
organization responsible for its own administration; and, as of
1-1-2009 responsible for its own funding. The Knitting Guild
held its Christmas party at the Center Dec. 8th. The
Douglassaires hosted their annual New Years Eve party Dec. 31st;
MANPOWER hosted its monthy Boys to Men breakfast Dec. 8th.
Adult male Center members are invited to bring their sons,
nephews, neighbors, little brothers etc. to the 2nd
Sat. Brunch, 10-Noon; CENTER FOR FINE ARTS Music and
Sign-Language Performance students went on a Caroling field-trip
to perform for our neighbors Dec. 20th, following a
holiday dinner and gift exchange in the After School
Zone; AFTER SCHOOL ZONE students attended Math and Reading
Tutoring at Kumon (Wal-Mart) on Mon. and Thurs. They also
enjoyed supervised recreation and computer tutoring in Spanish
Tues., Weds. and Fri.
2.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH-
Dir. McCorvey visited
reading buddy Cameron Williams at Jane Phillips School Dec. 5th
and 12th; The Center provided rent-free party space
for the Douglassaires, and the Knitting Guild as a membership
promotion; The Center provided Christmas cookies for all Jane
Phillips School students Dec. 20th.

FUNDRAISING-
The Center received: $3,000.00
from H.C. Price (For all youth programs except “Abstinence-only
programs”; $300 from Dan and Linda Maloney for Christmas gifts;
$3,000.00 from the K.S. Adams Foundation for “All That Jazz”
2008.
4.
MEMBERSHIP-
We are planning to promote
membership renewal in conjunction with our MLK Day observation
(Jan. 19th, 4 p.m.); and, we’re offering a one-year
membership with tickets to this year’s “All That Jazz” evening.
5.
BUILDING USE-
The local Phillipino Women’s
Club held their annual party Dec. 29th. We have
raised our rental price to $9 hr. per room, and will also be
requiring a $50 deposit for weekend after-hours rentals.
6.
CENTER NEEDS-
A 15 passenger van, or bus; Game room equipment; New flooring in
our office-suite; Volunteers for after school tutoring;
Apprenticeship sites for our Work Ethics Pro$per students,
beginning June 9th.
7.
IN ADDITION-
The Center will produce “A
Raisin in the Sun” July 25-27. Auditions will be January 28th,
7p.m. here at the Center
